Why
Effexor XR is on the ISMP “Do Not Crush” list as extended-release, and FDA labeling says not to divide, crush, chew, or place the capsule in water. The label does allow opening the capsule and sprinkling the intact pellets on a spoonful of applesauce, swallowed immediately without chewing.
What to ask the pharmacist instead
Ask the pharmacist to walk you through the label-approved applesauce sprinkle method, making sure the pellets are never chewed or crushed.
