Medication module
metformin immediate-release
Glucophage · Immediate-release tablet
Why
The immediate-release tablet has no special release mechanism; it does not appear on the ISMP “Do Not Crush” list and FDA labeling contains no restriction against crushing. Only the extended-release versions carry a do-not-crush warning.
What to ask the pharmacist instead
Ask your pharmacist to confirm your tablet is the immediate-release form (not ER) and whether a liquid metformin (e.g., Riomet) would be easier.
